It’s been a while since ‘Reclaiming The Crown’, Born From Pain’s debut full-length, was released, but now the band is back to destroy what was left standing. The band has gone through a lot of line-up changes in between the two records, but this hasn’t had a significant on the musical style; if you’re familiar with BFP’s previous work, the ten songs on this record should not be a surprise: Slayer and Hatebreed combined in the ultimate mix of hardcore and metal. Or metal and hardcore, since metal definitely forms the main course on the menu offered here.
‘The Sands Of Time’ offers ten balls-out songs with more aggression and testosterone than a train full of football hooligans after a bitter loss. The songs range from the category ‘hard’ (Like ‘Death And The City’ and ‘Harvest’) to... well... ‘harder’. Songs like ‘The Longest Day’, ‘Never Return’ and ‘Stainless’ sound like a kick in the nuts and will undoubtedly be the soundtrack to some kickboxing mayhem in venues all over Europe this summer. | |
New drummer Pieter knows how to work the double bass and the riffing is fast as ever. The word ‘subtle’ has mysteriously vanished from BFP’s dictionary and the CD pounds on relentlessly in it’s half hour of playing time.
The record has been produced by Danish mixmeister Tue Madsen (Known from his work with bands like The Haunted and N.A.O.P.) and he has done one hell of a job, because the entire album sounds tight, heavy and in-your-face. Che’s vocals sound great and the whole band finally captures the power of their live shows with this one. Great layout as well, the band obviously spent a lot of time on the look of the release.
‘The Sand Of Time’ should have been the soundtrack to this year’s summer blockbuster movie: “Hulk Angry! Hulk Smash!”
