‘Mnemic is a band that is hard to categorize and hardly can be described with a certain label’ says the biography included with this CD. And maybe they are right. Mnemic is a band that is hard to describe, but on the other hand, it’s not that hard: good metal will fulfil.
Drawing influences from Strapping Young Lad, Meshuggah and Killswitch Engage they just made a hell of an album. Boy… a few weeks ago it was Chimaira who brought the fucking metal, but Mnemic also knows how to make a delicious metal dinner.
It’s loud, it’s catchy. It’s blasting, it’s clean. Shouts and screams. A lot of guitars and a lot of chemistry between the band members, a lot of sphere.
Mnemic means ‘Mainly Neurotic Energy Modifying’. Well, I like to pick two words out of that: Energy and Neurotic. They are neurotic, but neurotic in a structured way (not like Converge, DEP or All Else Failed neurotic). | |
And the energy, well, just listen to it and see if you can sit still. When the second song kicks in, you will be hanging from your lamp swinging like you are Tarzan and looking for some piece of Jane.
I have one word for the production, which was done by Tue Madsen: Amazing. What a sound, it’s comparable to the Strapping Young Lad production: heavy and you can hear everything.
The CD is full of good songs, like I already said. I shall pick a few:
“Blood Stained” – song with an unbelievable catchy chorus. If you like Strapping Young Lad, you definitely need to hear this song!
“Ghost” – brilliant metal riffs (the perfect production is an extra bonus) and sometimes this song reminds of the latest Chimaira album.
“Mechanical Spin Phenomenon” - is just… well perfect metal just like the other 6 songs. Every song is worth listening to. Just get this album! (Friso) |
