Somewhere in the winter of 2002 I saw AntiProduct perform in Amsterdam, with Murderdolls. Never having heard their music, I was pleasantly surprised by their humoristic version of rock ‘n roll with a heavy edge. Time to listen to the band doing their thing on a shiny CD… entitled Made In USA.

Well, I can tell you that they aren’t any different on record. The band has that same hefty rock ‘n roll sound which is pretty much the soundtrack for any big (house) party. With a track like “Thank God I’m Right”, Mr. A.Product bluntly overuses his unique rock voice, which isn’t more than a humoristic attempt at singing. His voice can be best described as an older and more “melodic” version of Casey Chaos of Amen.

The rock ‘n roll vibe only gets bigger with “Going Where The Action Is” and how can we forget “The Rules We Rock ‘n Roll By”, which is the true rock ‘n roll anthem of this album. Another fairly original aspect of the band, are the female background singers. For those who don’t know it, most AntiProduct band members are female and all of them have voices like angels that might as well be used for pop music, hell, gothic rock even! Production wise, producer Alex Kane did a great job preserving the band’s party/live element, making the album sound just as raw as their live shows.

But apparently, the band members themselves don’t think it’s all that good. Read the back cover that says “Overproduced by Alex Kane”. Of course this is just a dumb joke, considering the band’s image.

A nice addition for the anti-Bush supporters becomes visible when you open the disc’s package. Yes indeed, it displays Bush’s head during one of his speeches. Remembering the band’s own anti-Bush speech from their live performance, you can be sure they don’t support the American president. All of this proves the band enjoys a good laugh.

If you like Murderdolls’ last album, you’ll certainly enjoy AntiProduct’s Made In USA and I really suggest you check them out at one of their gigs. All rock ‘n roll fans can blindly buy this album, but be warned: it’ll need a few spins before it starts to grow on you.
