After watching the band giving it all on the Midsummer Hardcore Fest recently, they won my interest. If you can give as much as they did for an audience of about ten people you at least deserve my respect. And so I bought their EP, Pictures, Letters & Memories. The band’s melodic hardcore has more edge than Taking Back Sunday and beats less around the bush than bands like North Star or Thursday.

One important element is missing on this EP. The band has had some line up changes, with singer/guitarist Marc being added to the band, who adds another layer (screams) to the band’s sound especially in a live-situation.

The harmonies on the EP are clean cut and melodic. But it surely shows the potential of Last Year. Listen to “My Old Friend” and the title track, and be convinced. Their debut album is due to be released sometime this year on Good Life Recordings. Check out http://www.thelastyear.com for more info.
