Ex-Avalon singer Chitral Chity Sompala, session musician Frank Rohles (guitar), ex-Minds Eye drummer Daniel Flores, and Peter Hahn (bass) have formed the band Faro. The music of Faro lies in the line of singer Sompola’s former bands, Avalon and Minds Eye (both pinpointed as progressive metal).

Melodic arrangements, with eye for detail, yet still with a transparent production. A main role is cut out for the vocals and guitars during the (short) solos. The clear voice of Somapala gives a recognizable direction to the songs.

No showing off, but effective use of pretty basic, traditional riffing, and attractive solo work.

Besides the too full “Sometimes”, this album is a nice one. Containing a combination of driving melodic rock songs, and some easy listening ballads. Sometimes the production and arrangements remind of an average Bad English, and sometimes of Giant. For the fans of the genre, this one is worth a try.
