"Sick" is the first full length release of Raoul Dumas, Marc Brinkerink, Riveliño Hokstam, Daan de Bruyne, Sander Meisner and Stephan Schneider, collectively known as Motherfed. After 3 demos the band thought the time was right to release their debut album through 4Tune Records, who are also responsible for releasing Agresión, Brainshake, Retturn and Jaya The Cat. Backed up by a lot of touring experience, Motherfed were finally ready to unleash their musical sickness upon the rest of the world.
Combining elements from hip hop & rap to metal, Motherfed’s crossover reminds me the most of 90s Swedish crossover heroes Clawfinger. Motherfed’s low tuned sound, funny samples and humorous lyrics are a refreshing revival of the popular crossover sound in the late 80s and the beginning of the 90s. | |
Who doesn’t remember Faith No More, Fishbone, and Beastie Boys etc.? Although the album as a whole sounds too much alike, a couple of songs really grabbed my attention. The album’s opener "Blaze" and the sample driven "Bastic 3000" are the two most outstanding songs for me.
Zlaya Hadzich (Sonic Youth) was asked to guide these newbies through the hard world of rock and roll by providing the album a tight mix. Although "Sick" isn’t the best album in its genre, it still sounds quite refreshing and is a nice alternative for all those depressing music nowadays. Perfect party music if you ask me. (Dennis) |
