The Height Of Callousness, Spineshank’s previous album, surprised me in every single way. When I heard this band for the first time I never expected them to deliver such an impressive album. I dare to say that this was and still is one of the best numetal albums ever.
With an interval of almost 3 years Self Destructive Pattern will finally hit your local stores. The question is, is this album as surprising as the band’s previous record? Yes and no. When you first listen to it you won`t hear many differences. The band didn`t go all the way, so it`s the little things that make Self Destructive Pattern worth listening to. It`s probably their most extreme record so far. Not that it`s their heaviest album, but they push their sound to the limit. From the melodic boundaries of Ricky Martin goes metal ("Smothered", their first single, "BeginNing Of The End" and "Forgotten") to some of their heaviest work yet ("Self Destructive Pattern") Spineshank proves that they are still ahead of a lot of other bands in both lyrical and musical respect. | |
Jonny Santos wrote more of the lyrics this time, so he isn`t singing Tommy`s lyrics all the time (as he did on the previous records). The electronic elements were pushed back a bit and sometimes you`ll even hear a couple of punk and hardcore influences (guitar riffs and sing-a-longs in "Consumed").
Self Destructive Pattern is an album that will surely need some time to grow on you, but then you`ll discover the little elements that make this a good record. Spineshank is back and with the help of GGGarth (what`s in a name?) Richardson, known for his work with Project 86 and Mudvayne, they managed to make another killer album that will place them at the top of the numetal scene.
