They did it again! After their underrated debut The Adventures Of Captain Dog, Blind Dog released a worthy second album called Captain Dog Rides Again. Drowned in seventies riffs, this power trio produces a solid wall of devoted stoner with something extra. The music of Blind Dog is not just about exploiting one riff to the bone, but contains a wide range of twists, and intermezzos keeping the tension optimal.
With a high technical standard, a range of seventies influences, from Black Sabbath and Cream to Grateful Dead are melted into a convincing nineties heavy mix. Even memories of early Kiss and Fleetwood Mac (“Iron Cage”), or Alice Coopers’ Halo Of Flies (“Follow The Fools”) come to mind. | |
A complicated job for production, measuring this diversity into the right proportions. However, the final result is great.
With a solid, always grooving rhythm section, the tense guitar playing, and the convincing throat, Blind Dog has delivered a superb new album. The band show us the ultimate possibilities of a power trio, and they even make it happen live. If you ever get the chance to see this band play, you will not be disappointed. Hopefully with Captain Dog Rides Again, Blind Dog will get the appreciation they deserve.
