Electric Six... who does not know their single with controversial video ‘Danger! High Voltage’? When I first heard that song and saw the video, I laughed my ass off! And the rest of the CD is just as funny! Most songs are about weird subjects, such as ‘Gay Bar’ in which Dick Valentine sings about taking a girl to a gay bar and doing all kinds of things with her... and ‘Naked Pictures’ in which a government leader is threatened to fight Dick (who also leads a country), otherwise he will blackmail him with naked pictures of his mother.
When reading their bio, I found out that all five members were selected for their psychological profile; all have some sort of mental disease (shizophrenia, manic depressiveness, megalomania, paranoia). Recruited like some sort of psycho boy band. | |
More rumours are heard about the band, for example that the old woman in the ‘Danger! High Voltage’ video was Dick’s actual girlfriend at the time. And on their website it says that Jack White, from the White Stripes, sings the backup vocals in this song (I cannot hear that).
Whether all this is true or not, one cannot deny that Electric Six makes great music; it rocks, it pumps, it works!
I was especially surprised at how well the vocals match the music (or the music matches the vocals). And sometimes keyboards are used, which also adds and extra dimension to it. And even when they use the same guitar riff in two songs, it still sounds different!
Too bad the CD only lasts for little more than half an hour, because I’d like to hear more!
