There’s a record company for every band. The album’s inside artwork shows the band’s rejection letters from several record companies. It kinda puts the dot on the i. Darlington’s sense of irony is almost too much to bear; their punk rock-with-a-smile is far from fresh, new or challenging. Well, at least for the more experienced listener. The 14-year old kid next door will probably love Moron-A-Thon, give me the finger, and call me an old fuck.
The band’s friendly punk rock has a certain charm, sure. They have this Happy Days thing going on, but to call it the new emo (as it says in the band’s bio) would be stretching our sense of humor a little too far. | |
Or is it just part of the fun? Is all of it middle of the road then, you ask. No, it isn’t. “Girl+Summer=Fun” is actually a really cool song, reminding me of The Ramones. And “My Corolla” (c’mon guys, make a shirt with this title) is the anthem for everyone who still drives his very first car. You’ll also hear a little Travolta’s creeping up in some of the songs. But the Moron-A-Thon winner is “ATM”, the fastest, the raunchiest, the best. By far. Unfortunately, that’s not enough to save the album.
