It’s still a sad story; Coal Chamber passing away after the release of the somewhat disappointing Dark Days. The godfathers of the "spooky core"-genre showed they`ve deserved their popularity with wonderful albums like "Chamber Music" and, for a large part, their self-titled debut. Unfortunately, after almost 7 years, Roadrunner release a compilation album, called Giving The Devil His Due. In the same vein as Fear Factory’s Hatefiles, GTDHD is a collection of rare, live and some new material, making this an interesting final package for the fans.

For the fans only, I should say, because most of the remixes and radio-friendly versions are sounding a lot like the original album versions. “Bradley” is filtered of dirty language, “Sway” has a tiny change in Dez’s voice, “Wishes” and “Apparition” are taken from the Chamber Music-digipack and we can go on like this for 20 songs, all of them aiming at the album they’re taken from.

Most interesting is therefore the addition of a brand new song called “Headstones And The Walking Dead” as well as the 6 demo versions, taken from the 3 demo-recordings CC made before signing to Roadrunner. The new song is plain ugly from beginning ‘till end, the demo-versions are nice to listen to once or twice, but it’s only the never-released “Babbit” that would make me want to buy this release. So ask yourself this: would YOU spend 20 euros on one three-minute track?
