A new branch on the Victory tree: Spitalfield from Chicago; playing ball in the field of emo-rock. Cut down on the feisty guitar riffs, cut down on the emotional vocal outbursts but instead concentrate on smooth singing and words on relationships molded into lovely melodies. All sounds kinda sweet, doesn’t it? Well, actually, it all is. Indeed; a perfect album to surprise girlfriends with. Too sweet for my taste, but hey who cares about my taste?
All of this could turn into a nightmare if the band’s song writing was shitty. It’s not. Remember Right Now opens strong with “Those Days You Felt Alive”, “Kill The Drama” and “Five Days And Counting”. | |
Remember Right Now has enough hooks to even tickle deaf ears. Put this band on the road with Jimmy Eat World, release a video for “In The Same Lifetime” and Victory has a winner, yes a victor if you will.
The band clearly knows the elements necessary to put together a bundle of songs worth your while, and…they keep this quality up until the very last song. Respect for that. Downside is that the overall sound could use a little more pepper and a little less sugar. Kinda makes Spitalfield the emo version of Linkin Park, if you know what I mean. And we all know how many albums they sold…. (Marc) |
