The bio screams Faith No More in a way larger than life. Yeah right, Faith No More had Mike Patton, I hear you think. Well, Number One Son has Nic Whitmore. A perfect asset to a band that combines certain Faith No More elements – the diversity - and links them to a more modern rock sound. You know, emotional singing, heavy on the riffs. A lovely blend of everything available.

Damn, I’m sure if Nic did his shtick on Idols he would have won, no doubt about that. Just kidding, his voice – which kinda reminds of Roland Orzabal from Tears For Fears as well - is just what the doctor ordered to make Number One Son an above average rock band. He colors every riff and adds a bit of flavor to every pound of drumming. And as diverse as the band’s sound may be, Nic’s voice follows it flawlessly into any corner of the rock spectrum, without a problem.

Lessons opens in a smashing way; from the Incubus-like “Track 3” and the Lost Prophets in “Track 4” to Deftones in “Track 5”. I call it “Track” because the info on the promo is unreadable.

Unfortunately, yet not surprisingly, the band can’t keep that same quality until the last tone fades away. From “Track 6” on it’s up and down with Lessons. Always lingering around a potentially good song but stripped of a strong hook or a certain something that could spark the desire to play the album over and over again. That’s why we have the program button on our CD player, right? To cut this long story short; check this band out, if only for the first half of the album.
