My last review for Rockezine is a live recording by an Italian band called Evil Wings. Never heard of this band before, I decide to put it in the radio and gently turn up the volume; followed by an intense scream and the ‘OFF’ button of my stereo. What the hell has happened to me? This is some sort of eighties progressive metal band!
Now, as you can see this isn’t exactly my type of music, but it’s obvious this band used a lot of work on this recording. My Italian isn’t so good, but I believe this album was recorded on March 27th, 2002; most likely in Italy, the home country of this band. The package features a 12-track CD, and an accompanying DVD that has 6 songs that aren’t featured on the CD. | |
Now, I can imagine a prog-metal fan somehow managing to sit through the entire 77 minutes of this release, but it’s plain impossible for me. More guitar solos than I’ve heard in my entire life, songs that last easily over 16 minutes, a reprise of 11 minutes, and it keeps on going with the immense length of the DVD.
For fans of prog-metal, or of this band, I can surely imagine that this is a wonderful set. The sound quality is very good, the set list features songs from all albums and whilst the audience is somewhat quiet, the music is welcomed by the crowd as well. A nice package, but nothing for me… (Eelco) |
