Of course this album is presented with a red sticker stating “Features oGre – vocalist of Skinny Puppy”. The influence Skinny Puppy had – and still has – is a welcome reason to promote a project by this charismatic man. Accompanied by Mark Walk, “SunnyPsyOp” is the follow-up to 2001’s “Welt” and shows definite progress during the 2 years it has been in the making. “HiLo”, “maJiK” and “WaTergaTe” show improvement on the field of structure, yet claim originality in the sound and production methods used.
The song structures have changed thereby, making “SunnyPsyOp” sound gentler, more accessible but still deliciously twisted – mostly due to oGre’s vocals. | |
The relation with Skinny Puppy is sometimes very hard to find but I’m guessing that if you like that band, you’d like this album as well.
Of course there’s no need to tell why people should and should not buy this release. Fans of “Welt” can buy it instantly, whilst fans of electronic music that want to explore the borders between electronic and plain rock will no doubt fall in the category ‘buy’ as well. (Eelco) |
