The Mexican Disgorge (there is also an American one) have been around quite a few years in the extreme metal scene and Xtreem Music made the right decision to sign them. “Necrholocaust” delivers a deadly package of skillfully executed grindgore metal with some melodic interludes. While they certainly know how to blast, the more mid tempo pieces serve as contrast to those full speed passages, giving the album a very dynamic feeling. The sparse use of samples (sometimes reminding of Nailbomb) also contributes to this diversity.
Don’t get me wrong, this still is a blood sickening piece of grinding death metal, but these slower parts just make it interesting.
As far as comparisons to other band go, I hear a lot of Morbid Angel and some early Cannibal Corpse, but not too much, Disgorge also have their own identity.
Speaking of sound, the overall sound quality is quite good, not what you expect from a Mexican band but track 5 “Ravenous Funeral Carnage” sounds like it was recorded in a different session than the rest of the album. | |
The sound is much worse than on the other tracks, but maybe something went wrong with my promo CD.
As you may already have seen, the song titles are as absurd as for instance the early Sepultura titles like “The Past Reborns The Storm”. With song titles like “Macabre Realms Of Inhuman Bestiality”, “Boiling Vomit Through My Veins” and “Sodomic Baptism” don’t expect to win the Nobel Prize for Literature but that was probably never the idea anyway.
Disgorge delivers on “Necrholocaust” grinding death metal which is a worthy addition to any metal collection.
