Before I begin this review, I have to give much respect to Still No and their record label. The band’s do it yourself mentality is all around them, they do everything to promote their band without any support from a big label. The label, R-Records is also a label that keeps the DIY-flag high. You can trade cd’s there, give them adres lists, buy Still No cd’s (for only 5 euro/dollar) etc. Mail Rieslies@xs4all.nl for more info.

So much for that. About the album. Still No exists of former members of ‘Fokkum Op’(crust-oldschool) and ‘Government Of Youth’ (Metalpunkcore). These bands use to share a rehearsel room, where they obviously met each other. They decided to start a new band, called Still No. The band released a demo in 2002, receiving a lot of good and positive reactions. But they also got comments on the production: The sound was horrible.

2003: they just released their first full length called Attempt To Make Sense.

It is an album with some influences from metal, punk, crust and hardcore. And I have to say: It’s not exactly my thing. The voice of Niek just keeps irritating me. Songs like “Respect”, “The New Waste” or “Summertime Philosophies” are great songs, but his voice.. I dunno, I can’t listen to this album for too long. In a way this is a problem the band was already aware of. They are looking for a new singer right now. I hope they will find someone who has a better melodical voice and a better scream.

Musically, it’s not bad, it’s good hardcore/punk music that you can put on every moment of the day. I also feel a positive vibe in the music; which is always a good thing. But due to the singer it’s an anonymous record. Next time I hope they will release something with a new singer. Musically, they do not have to change anything. I wish them good luck.
