This DVD was basically released along side the double live album and features recordings from that same tour. Naturally, the DVD should have had the same track list but that’s not the case. First of all, the order is slightly mixed, which has possibly been done to fit in the short fan and backstage clips in between the songs. Nevertheless I find it slightly disturbing, as well as the fact that the DVD features 7 songs less (classics like “Flag Of Hate” and “Tormentor”). The quality of the recording is however good, just like the double live album, albeit slightly too polished.
The best part of this DVD is the 55 min. long history documentary of the band, which includes interviews (mostly in German but subtitles are available in English), video clips and footage from the very beginning onward. As a bonus Kreator has included two raw live tracks, “Flag Of Hate” and “Tormentor”, recorded in 2002 at the With Full Force Festival. | |
The sound of these tracks is far from the polished sound you hear on the rest of the DVD, which is not a bad thing at all, mind you. It captures the rawness a band like Kreator naturally should possess without the polishing touch of a producer. Great stuff and it certainly makes up for the fact that they left these two classics from the original track list.
Finally, the DVD contains a ‘making of Live Kreation’ which is truly very poor with a running time of 2.5 minutes and it doesn’t even feature a single interview; just some shots of fans, the built-up of the stage, and the band members themselves. Well, I guess one can only put so much on one DVD. If you are a real diehard Kreator fan then this DVD is a very nice addition to your collection. However, if you are more of a regular fan, then buy the double live album and forget about this DVD release. It doesn’t really offer all that much extra.
