Jimi Hendrix surely is one of the most influential musicians in rock music, no doubt about that. Lots of rock stars nowadays still get their ideas from this well of inspiration. Lots of riffs and arrangements have been stolen or covered. Still, even this tribute with all the modern possibilities and techniques, just proves the ingenuity and timelessness of the man’s original work.

Some big names like Ice T. and George Clinton, as well as members of Marilyn Manson, Guns ‘N Roses, Toto, and Metallica have tried to give their interpretation of some classics.

The man himself wasn’t too scared to experiment, but I cannot imagine that he would be satisfied with some of the versions on this album. “Hey Joe” can hardly be recognised, just the lyrics, and one guitar licks still stand, and “Little Wing” is completely raped as an R&B song. This seems to be a fashion when you take a look at the charts. Some versions still have a bit of a bite, but really none can compete with the original.
