These kind of tribute albums make me wonder; where is the line between own interpretations and ripping and raping a song. Today’s trend of using a sample of a classic song, adding some computer techniques and a drum beat with smooth vocals or rap (or even both), certainly don’t make me happy either.
Sure, there are some fine musicians on this album, like Marco Mendoza, playing a masterpiece bass line on “Immigrant Song”. | |
Also Mr. Page will not mind the credits, given his projects in the past (raping his own work). Still, whether this product can be called Rock & Roll, I kind of doubt. Besides the very well performed “Good Times, Bad Times”, this album is stuffed with high tech, and trendy R&B and rap influences. With the right amount of brainwashing by radio stations, there will probably even be a hit single on this one. (Cor) |
