It’s R.I.P. for Pantera and maybe even Down, but Anselmo is far from done in the music industry. The infamous frontman of legendary bands like Pantera and Down still has enough energy to go on with “the best thing that every happened to him”; Superjoint Ritual. Appearantly, Anselmo is now a sober man and is giving every drop of blood, putting it into this fairly new band.

Superjoint’s first release, last year, was quite the disappointment with nothing really special and a crappy production. But despite of that, the fans of Phil and his new project still supported it. Now, a year later, the band is back with another album; A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred. I guess the title speaks for itself. The band supports America no matter what, and this is quite dangerous to do in the current situation the US is in. Patriots? I don’t know… but they do support their country.

A Lethal Dose…blasts off with a powerful and energetic opener, “Sickness”. Nothing has really changed as you listen to the music and Anselmo’s voice.

Phil sounds extremely angry with his raspy voice, accompanied by good and talented musicians that riff out with grooving and even danceable parts. However, the band did actually grow. Their punkrock attitude is more embedded in their songs. At times, the album reminds me a lot of Pantera’s Great Southern Trendkill. It has that same style and attitude as soon as you put the album on (especially in “The Desctruction Of A Person”) but they don’t even come close to Pantera’s most legendary album.

“Personal Insult” has a definite pro-American vibe in it with lines like “Americans, the most pissed off motherfuckers in world”. Personally, I find this a bit too straight forward but all personal issues aside, this song has some really good diverse moments. In conclusion; it has some very cool parts but it’s nowhere extremely original, nor catchy. A mediocre album that doesn’t has what it takes to make you want to thrash out throughout the album.
