Mortician did it again! They once again created an album filled with ultra brutal death metal without compromise. The extremely low and heavily distorted guitars, the insanely fast drumcomputer which is “programmed to kill” (hey, I didn’t came up with this!), the distorted and heavy as fuck bass guitar, the psychotic horror-flick intros and the gut-wrenching-ultra-low vocals, it’s all there again. Sick-ass lyrics that you can hardly tell Will is singing, are also present, just like the gore/horror artwork. And it all rules! It all plain fuckin’ rules! Mortician succeeds once again in maintaining their so called “cult” status, and releasing another killer record.

But… all the songs from this fourth record Darkest Day Of Horror, could have been on their previous recordings just as easy.

It doesn’t add anything to their discography. The only difference could be the occasionally more catchy or groovy riffs and songs (listen to “Dead And Buried” for example and you know what I mean), no more cover songs in the middle of the track list (which I thought were just a tad redundant) and the somewhat better sound, as the guitars are not as huge as on Domain Of Death, which caused the rest of the instruments almost to drown in their sound.

Mortician did it again, and they probably will again, and again. A very good and brutal record, a must for the die-hards (like me!) and a very nice starter for people seeking something more extreme than Cannibal Corpse.
