The Greek Battleroar was founded in 2000 and have now released their self titled debut album. The band claims to play music in the style of the eighties, in the vein of bands like Manilla Road, Omen and Cirith Ungol and that’s about right. Epic heavy metal that centers around, as the band name already reveals, battle.
The opening song “Swordbrothers” is pretty decent. The production is old school, kind of hollow and not too powerful. My only problem with the sound is the drums, they’re a bit too much in front and at times sounds quite terrible. Singer Marco Concoreggi on the other hand does a great job. His voice captivates you. I’m certain however that this is a matter of taste since his voice also sounds rather strange at times. | |
Some of the songs aren’t all that original though and during the third song “Egyptian Doom” I’m wondering whether they’re not actually copying another band. Well, doesn’t matter. Battleroar never claimed to play anything original anyway. Battleroar is all in all a pretty decent album. Nothing spectacular but if you dig old school epic metal then you might want to check this out. Since this is only a debut album, the band has room enough to develop into their own style. For now it’s nothing more than a pretty successful debut with some good parts and some parts that could have been left out.
