A couple of days ago I wrote a review for Alquins One More Night-DVD. A lot of the words written in that review can be used for the cd version of their Zoetermeer-gig as well. Why not just one review then? Simple, the cd version deserves the same attention as the DVD, besides “Sweet Surrender”, a new studio track, is not included on the DVD. This sixteen minute song starts of with beautiful female choir vocals, turns into sensitive progressive rock and ends with a gathering of styles and sounds.

All characteristics, the beautiful sax, weeping guitar play, husky vocals and profound drumming are there. Alquin is clearly not just one of those bands reuniting for commercial reasons, playing “One More Night” and cash in. The new track sounds fresh, modern and as I mentioned earlier, full of joy. With “Sweet Surrender” the band tides the past twenty years of prog rock evolution.
