The story of this concept rock opera is dated in eighteen century Florance. Sculptor Enzio is drawn to Florance and gets the oppertunity to design a modern facade for the Sante Groce, an admission that was never realised by sixteenth century artist Michelangelo. In a vision and a dream of Michelangelo, Enzio realizes that a modern facade for this old church wouldn’t be right and tries to convince the town counsil into a design based on Michelangelo’s time and thoughts. This is where trouble starts.

The brain behind this project is Dutch composer and multi instrumentalist Henry Meeuws. On this release he plays all instruments. The different characters of the story are sung by guest singers (among them three collegues of the progressive symphonic rock band Casual Silence).

The recording was done at the musicians home studio. This is, no doubt, the main reason why the sound quality on the album is not as you want it to be. The music sounds rather dry. Besides it’s a sad thing to notice that the drum computer is one of the best sounding instruments on the album.

The compositions on Individual Unique are rarely exiting. Most of the melodies and structures just sound far too familiar (like in the latest Casual Silence release you can hear a lot of Dream Theater, on this album it’s “Metropolis part II”). Some of the ideas in tracks “Tell Me” and Mirror Man” are worth listening to, but most tracks are simply not good enough. This is one of those albums you can easily do without.
