Unique Leader keeps on releasing some of the most extreme and brutal death metal ever recorded. This year alone we`ve had killer releases from Severed Savior, Deeds Of Flesh and Psycroptic and now we have Decrepit Birth. And this is even more extreme, more brutal and faster than anything else.

This is largely due to the insanely fast drumming of Tim Yeung (Vital Remains). This guy must have the heart of a horse and arms and legs of stainless steel. His drumming is so over the top and fast that it looks at first glance an ongoing hammering of blast beats. After a short while you begin to notice the diversity and ingenuity and he becomes even more impressive.

The rest of the band, singer Bill Materson, bassist Derek Boyer and guitarist Matt Sotelo are also very impressive but Tim steals the show.

Although Decrepit Birth shows remarkable handling of instruments at high speeds it’s the tracks with slower passages (#7: “Concepting The Era Of Genocide” and #8: ...And Time Begins) that are the best. These tracks feature some slow passages reminding of Deeds Of Flesh and the interaction between slow and fast is done in a most impressive way.

The production, done by Decrepit Birth themselves is just what this kind of music needs. Clear enough to distinguish all the instruments, yet filthy enough so that it doesn`t become too clean. And of course a lot of people will be moaning about the fact that the drums of Tim are too triggered but at the high speeds he operates on its inevitable he uses this kind of technology. You don`t hear anybody complaining about distortion on guitars either...

It all becomes repetitive but Decrepit Birth is brrrrrutal U.S. death metal of the highest quality and if you call yourself a death metal fan this is an absolute must buy.
