The New Bomb Turks. Blatant raunchy garage rock and roll that never managed to climb out of the underground. Thank god for that, cause you wouldn’t want the entire world to sing along. Switchblade Tongues, Butterknife Brains is a compilation album filled with B-sides, left overs, cover tracks and unreleased tracks. Recorded in several studios, which gives the album that typical NBT feeling. Kinda chaotic, kinda messy, kinda in your face. Remember At Rope’s End, recorded in both Sweden and the United States? It had that same vibe.

The fact that Switchblade Tongues, Butterknife Brains is a compilation (it is not a Best Of-album) does not affect the quality all that much. Pure rock and roll, raw, unpolished and straight from the heart.

Some songs (especially the cover tracks) may differ a bit in quality but that has more to do with the original than the version NBT pulls out of their hat.

More than anything this album features the bands` renown prickly rock chords and full throttle drumming with singer Eric Davidson licking it all together with his distinct “Iggy Pop goes postal” kind of attitude. Although this band truly excells on stage, Switchblade Tongues, Butterknife Brains gives you a good idea of how they sound on stage, it unfortunately doesn’t show you how they own the stage. This shouldn’t stop you from getting your hands on this album, cause it might just bring you one step closer to completing your NBT collection.
