This is Pro-Agres, with a cd called Proffesional Music Agression, including songtitles like “Lost In Hate” and “Pro-Agres Sound”. And with the worst cover of the year, I already had my doubts about the band’s music. As I read the lyrics, it only made those doubts stronger, they’re just too infantile. However, I still had to insert the album into my cd-player. A man’s gotta do what he’s gotta do, so I did.

Well. The first thing I heard was that Pro-Agres is pretty technical. They know how to create some cool guitar riffs and work with different rhythms. But that’s also Pro-Agres’s problem. They’re trying to be too technical which does not help the music. And does not caress the ears of a possible buyer.. It’s like I am listening to 2 bands playing at the same time: The music at times does not sound as a whole.

The singer sounds somewhat like Remy (Green Lizard) or D-Hauz (20 Dead Flower Children). He does the best he can. At least, that’s the feeling I get. Cause with this kind of music, it’s hard to develop catchy, memorable vocal lines.

I don’t know if there is still room for bands like Pro-Agres. It’s just too anonymous and in 2003, you have to either be: a)spectacular and innovating (Dillinger Escape Plan, Postman Syndrome, Cave-In) b)good at what you do (Tool, Knuckledust, Deftones) c)or bring back the old school (White Stripes, Hardcore Superstar, Darkness).

Pro-Agres just doesn’t get to me. It’s not the complexity of the music, it’s just that it sounds inspireless. Rather 5 good songs and 7 shitty songs than 12 decent songs that add nothing.
