Atman: Sounds Turkish. They are however not Turkish. They are Italian and exist of four members. Just some useless information for you.

I never heard of this band, which is not really a shame. The band already released three albums, two albums by themselves and one on the Adverse Rising label (never heard of it). The album on Adverse Rising is re-released this month, on the better known 4Tune Records (Brainshake, Agresion, Motherfed).

Atman is founded in a sleepy Italian county called Lucca. I doubt whether there’s a music store in Lucca. One question rises: where do they get their influences from? They draw influences from bands like Alice In Chains, Dinosaur JR. and Handsome, injected with a big dose of pop music. Maybe you know the album Overgrown Eden, released by INME earlier this year.

You’ll find some comparisons between the two bands.

The Life I Never Had is a good solid rock album like we know from Weezer, but with a great singer. David Winter has a pretty melancholic voice with a raw edge. If you wonder what I mean, listen to the song “Narcism”. What he should not do is sing a song like “Joyful”. It’s an anonymous slow song that keeps irritating me. The same goes for the song “Universe”.

Atman is not the new sensation, but like I said a solid rock band. With a basic line-up (guitar, bass, drum, vocals) they produce safe rock. Fans of Nickelback, Live and Lifehouse will appreciate this. Although I’m convinced that if they would write songs with more strange breaks, rhythms etc., they could produce a fantastic album. Especially with this singer.
