This is yet another re-release by Shire Records. Paul Shortino and J.K. Northrup, I never heard of them but the internet would without a doubt provide me with more information about these musicians and their releases.
Shortino was the lead singer of Quit Riot and Rough Cutt. After he left these bands in the late eighties, he wound up with guitar player J.K. Northrup, a busy guy at that time, playing in all kind of different bands. In the early nineties these two guys wrote the music for Back On Track. The album was released in 1993 by Alfa Records. The album features many other great recording artists including, Carmine Appice, James Kottak (Scorpions, Kingdom Come), Jeff Pilson (Dokken), Sean McNabb (House of Lords, Great White), Matt Bissonette (David Lee Roth) and Toto singer Bobby Kimball. | |
The original release must have made quit an impression.
The music on the disc is pure classic rock. This does not mean that it’s out dated. As a matter of fact the music sounds pretty up-to-date. I wonder if the sound is close to the original release or that it has something to do with the remastering of the original tapes. This ten year old cd sounds much better than the average melodic AOR that is being released nowadays.
The re-release features four bonus tracks. I have no idea where they came from but my guess is that they are left overs from the original recording session.
