Once there was Warlock, a German metal band with a pretty, blonde female singer. Today, twenty years ahead, this German rock goddess is still looking good, and more important: her voice is still as metal as ever. Time to celebrate with a DVD, containing a live registration of a show in her home country, and lots of extras. Doro’s voice is not always technically perfect, but 100% convincing: a true believer in metal, and not afraid to show it.

The show footage is excellent, with a good impression of a metal feast, and a very enthousiastic audience.Unfortunately the same can’t be said about the music: especially the guitars, although played very well, they sound much too chilly and thin. (Something that shouldn’t be necessary with two Gibson les Paul’s.) Although the band plays tight and shows a lot of fun, main eye catcher however is the woman who gave her name to the band.

The voice of this front lady, dressed in black leather and lots of shining metal, is very prominent in the mix. With lots of “hey, hey, hey’s” with the audience, and at times short of breath, this lady still spreads her devotion for her religion.

Opening with the fast “Hellbound”, and a selection of highlights from her career, with a well balanced set from old Warlock classics and solo work, this DVD is a worthy document. Provided there is not a truckload of overdubs, Doro’s voice is still in great shape, especially in the ballads. This double DVD is really loaded with extra’s: video clips, documentary, several behind the scene’s video’s, and some bootleg live video’s. When I like it, if only for the sentimental value, real fans will love it.
