I didn’t expect to hear something again from these hardcore punk-rockers. Their last cd came out in the spring of 2000 and was an album full of catchy and sing-a-long hardcore-punk songs. I saw them live as well, but they dissapointed me. After that, I never heard from them again.

All of a sudden, they are back with a new album on I Scream Records. `Detonate’, it is called. The the formula hasn`t changed; The same catchy parts, the chorusses; Vision Is back.

Haven’t there been any changes? Well, a few. What I noticed first was the production. It’s a sort of lo-fi production. Like you’re riding on a highway with a lot of fog. Project the fog on the cd and imagine how it sounds. But with this kind of music, it is not such a bad thing (think of productions like ‘end of millennium’ by 59 times the pain or ‘the crew’ by 7 seconds).

The second thing that grabbed my attention was that some songs were longer and more technical. I saw them live a few weeks ago and the new songs didn’t get the same response as the oldies. A song like ‘Overload’ is maybe too long. And they should see to it that they don`t get too technical, they don’t need to do that with this kind of music.

My favourite songs: Detonate, Getaway plan (brilliant!) and Victory Song.

All and all: I am glad Vision is back. When I listened to Detonate, I immediately grabbed the old ones again too. There is still room for a band like this. Between all those happy punk bands and dedicated hardcorebands, there is a band like Vision. I even think they can earn more succes now, with bands like Kid Dynamite, Give Up The Ghost, Good Riddance and Strike Anywhere in the scene.
