Hungarian guitar God Tibor Tatrai in a new project called Boomboom. "Who?" Tibor Tatrai...you know, he was in Syrius, Juventus (the band), and Scorpio not to mention the Hobo blues band.
Who the hell I am talking about you say? Well that`s the problem with this band, I also never heard of them or the guitarplayer too. But evidently this is a well known and stadium filling act in Hungary. Allright, but what about this album? Well it is a new band around Tibor Tatrai and shows a new aspect of his talent of guitarplaying. It is based on late 60 early 70`s rock ala Jimi Hendrix but more structured. Its` quite nice to listen to but unfortunately it doesn`t have that extra feeling that is needed for a band that plays this kind of music. Songs are nice, guitarwork OK, vocals too, nice harmonies (Kings` X like sometimes), production could be better but is also OK and when I count the pro and cons I have to say that there certainly is potential for Boomboom (what`s in a name since Sept. | |
11) but I think they should write more daring songs like `HiFi` that is very catchy but ends with a furious jam at the end. The rest easily floats without going anywhere particular, Tibor`s guitar indeed is the main factor and he really is very talented, no doubt here, but songwise Boomboom don`t make any statements. They hang in the balance so my suggetion is this; maybe T. Tibor should call T. Tabor (King`s X) to see if they can transform the talents into something really special.
