Before I continue with my review on Dutch emorock outfit A Day’s Work latest outing, Drowning In What I Believe, this: I am not on their street team! That being said, Drowning In What I Believe (DIWIB) is a professional self released 4-tracker with everything onboard for rock fans who dig the emotional. Who dig the grandeur of wide open chords and clear emotional vocals, backed by a technical superb rhythm section. Indeed, think of Muse, Live, Incubus and some hints of current American emo. This is however European emotional rock, which means the songs will probably not work for you after just one listening. It takes a few of them, but know this: it will pay off!

The band digs deep with personal lyrics and singer Paul’s, at times heart wrenching, outbursts. Production wise there are no complaints at all. Use headphones and be amazed how good this self release sounds. Makes you wonder if the band can pull this of on a full length album.

If we ever get to that point remains unknown for now, because while most record companies are slobbering for the next Idols crap or assembling their own ‘rock band’, true talent still roams in the underground. Despite of their talent and proven quality, it’s not going to be easy for A Day’s Work. Fortunately for the band they have both feet on the ground because basically, the music bizz sucks. Although I still support the age old cliché that talent and hard work will pay off in the end, there are however numerous examples in my album collection that prove the opposite. Fantastic music, no success.

For more info you can read the interview in the interview-section, check out http://www.adayswork.nl or e-mail the band at info@adayswork.nl and order Drowning In What I Believe. Serious, you won’t regret it.
