Gotta love DVD’s. Especially if they are crammed with low key underground stuff, straight from the Relapse gutters. Videos of bands that will never make it on MTV. Who cares. Relapse picked a number of videos from current bands and bands who are no longer on their roster, with varying quality.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that a lot of the videos are shot with handheld cameras. Footage shot by the less creative, telling awkward story lines, mixed with live shots of the band in question. Uphill Battle for instance and Benumb. Fairly decent live videos of Neurosis, Dillinger Escape Plan, Unsane and High On Fire. One video some people will find ‘funny’: Blood Duster. Professional stuff by Amorphis (by far the best video of the lot) and Deceased. And some questionable stuff by Today Is The Day, Alabama Thunder Pussy, Brutal Truth, Dead World and Alchemist. | |
Don’t expect any extras on this DVD. It’s videos all the way. Unfortunately the creativity some of these bands put to work in their music, did not rub of on their video attempts. Sure if there’s no budget how can you create something worth our while? Simple. Don’t. Seriously, wait till you can afford a decent video with a decent idea or shoot a professional live video but don’t bother us with this ‘strictly underground’ crap. There’s live videos (Benumb) on this DVD shot in front of an audience of 12 (give or take a few)! No wonder singer Pete Pontikoff takes a swing at the camera.
This doesn’t mean Recollection is not worth your while. For the price of it, it’s a nice introduction to what is out there in extreme music today. (Marc) |
