Nuclear Blast Rating: 6.5/10

Danish hybrid metallers Raunchy are due to release their sophomore album. Confusion Bay is above all abrassive. What it should have been is attention-grabbing, but it isn’t. Raunchy try to overwhelm us with loud and heavy riffs, metallic double bass drumming and samples. Sound familiar? How about this: singer Lars Vognstrup uses clean and screams (almost grunts) for vocals. Yes, Fear Factory.
Unfortunately Raunchy do not add enough character to this overused sound to rise above the average. | |
There’s nothing wrong with the production, nothing wrong with the musical performance, it’s just that they lack any personality and music so depending on groove, needs catchy, memorable riffs. If the riffs are there, the vocal lines will follow. Confusion Bay has neither, resulting in 11 loud tracks that do not last beyond their playing time.
