Red Tape=cool sizzle. I downloaded (oooow!) their demo once, and it sounded ok, but the sound quality was not something of which you could say ‘well that’s perfect’. But hey, what did you expect from a demo? Ok. They return now with a new album called Radio Activist. A lousy name. Just as lousy as watching your neighbours have sex with each other in the backyard (do it at least where nobody can see you!).

When singer Jaworski decided he hated the world and his society around him, he decided to sign in for the army (now that is punk!). He never served because then Red Tape came from the ground: a new way to ventilate his emotions towards people, society and life itself. He recruited 4 members (one was called: Chuck Berry! How cool is that!), and they started writing music. After some line-up changes, they now have a stabile line up.

Next chapter: Amir Derakh (Coal Chamber, Orgy, System Of A Down) heard the band and was interested in them. He decided to produce their first CD ‘Radioactivist’. And gave it the sound that this band needed, just like he did with the first Coal Chamber and Orgy’s Candyass, which proves he is one of the leading producers in The States.

What can you expect from Red Tape? Well. Take a glass. Throw some Amen juice in it and mix it with Black Flag Cola. Steer with the Dead Kennedies spoon and finally: some AFI Cream. Voila: Your cocktail is ready. It tastes good.

The fact why this band is cool is their energetic sound. They really like to ventilate their aggression as well as their energy. It brings us a record that is comparable to We Have Come For Your Parents from Amen: musically, not too complex, but oh so deadly.

Opener “Damage Control” kicks you in the nuts and I can tell you: it’s not a drop kick from some 12 year old nitwit computer freak. No, it’s a mean kick with an Iron Dr. Marten and if you think you finally can stand up, “Dropping Bombs On Your Moms” will kick you down again. And you stay down from now then. Lesson learned: Red Tape is a band that you cannot be nice to. Nope. The only way to communicate with them is to put up your dukes and fight, but always with respect and room for discussion afterwards.

Let me say this: ‘Radioactivist’ will be one of the best and most honest punk CD’s of 2004.
