Deforge was formed under the monicker Anonima Disastri (Anonymous Disaster?) in 1997 and released 2 demos so far. This is the first under their new name. When I inserted the cd-r in my cd player and the first track began to play the first thought that came to me was that it sounded very much like Death. And especially the cd “Individual Thought Patterns”. Singer Gaetano Ettorre even sounds like (a lesser gifted) Chuck Chuldiner.

The following tracks are more or less in the same vein, a bit of Death, a bit of thrash metal and a lot of melody mixed with aggression. The emphasis is on the guitar work, the guitars are upfront in the mix and sound way better than the drums, who sound very cheap.

The vocals are not their strongest point as I mentioned earlier, singer Gaetano sounds too forced and not very powerful. The backing vocals however, done by guitar player Massamo Di Gaetano sound OK. Maybe Deforge should swap their vocalists for a better result on the next CD.

Hopefully for the band the following album will be released on a label because there are far worse bands that inked a deal, so based on this material, I don’t see any difficulties for Deforge to get a record deal.
