No Gods No Masters. That’s a pretty direct statement from this from origin Chilean Band. With a title like that you automatically think of metal (thanks to the classical condition theory). And metal it is.

This is their fourth CD. I only knew their last one, Cancer, a solid metal album, but sometimes I heard too much Sepultura influences. It was an anonymous album. And what a difference that is with their latest effort No Gods No Masters. Spherical songs, an aggressive voice and some cool musicianship, but what do you expect with former members of Extreme Noise Terror, Entwined and Cradle of Filth?

Variety and aggression are some keywords for this new criminal CD. If you compare the first song “Aberration” with the second song “Consumed” you will hardly believe it’s the same fucking band! Except for the voice then, that is constantly on volume 11. Some ‘clean’ lines are welcome in the future, cause there are a lot of possibilities in this music for that.

Or he should do more lines like Deconstruction (brilliant song!).

The riffs are short and pure metal. Mix At The Gates, Testament with the typical Metal Blade sound, and you have something like Criminal. This also reminds me of the latest works from Scarve and Fleshcrawl. There is a perfect balance between old school metal and technical death metal. Like “Deconstruction” which proves this.

The drums are, in my opinion, mixed too much in the background. For this music, you like to hear a progressive drum sound (like the last Machine Head or Mnemic). But he proves he has the skills for this, showcasing a lot of technical patterns in the music. Well done by former Extreme Noise Terror drummer Zac O’Neil.

Metal Blade are still holding the throne in the metal scene. With outings from Cannibal Corpse, Gorerotted, As I lay Dying etc. They’re still growing strong. No Gods No Masters fits perfectly in their catalogue.
