On the same label as Premenitions Of War and Between The Buried And Me but clearly not meant for the same target group. Catch 22 play horns, see. Oh no, I hear you think, not another rehashed punk rock ska band. Nope, Catch 22 belong in the same zip code as Dog Eat Dog, Mucky Pup, Sublime…..yes, sunshine sounds with a feel good mood. Quite popular in the States, fairly unknown in Europe.
No doubt this is a party on stage. However, on CD it doesn’t really rattle my chains that much. | |
Sure it sounds sympathetic and enthusiastic, and at times even very original. Blending soul, punk, ska, big band and rock either sounds very fresh or horribly wrong. In that sense Catch 22 sounds very fresh. Unfortunately most of the songs come across as very potential but lack the one thing that would have made this is a super album. Decent hooks and melodies. Exactly, the difference between fair and superb. Therefore… fair. (Marc) |
