If you are a fan of Occult or of Dutch extreme metal in general, you’ll have to buy this DVD! So, another review done…next!
Okay then, in order to convince the doubting metalheads, let me tell you what you’ll get for a mere 20 Euros including P&P.
The DVD features the complete history of the infamous Dutch Thrash metal band Occult from it’s inception in 1990 to the recording of their fifth and latest album. All is presented in Chronological order and it’s interesting to see the band evolve from the typical underground band playing in pig barns to the well oiled thrashing metal machine staging larger venues like the 013 in Tilburg and the Dynamo Open Air stage
The DVD is further filled with the unavoidable line-up changes, studio-reports, drunken scenes, interviews with (ex-) band members, footage from a feature story for Dutch television, many gigs and two video-clips of the tracks “Killing For Recreation” and the never released “Doomsday Destroyer”. | |
The live-gigs are in my opinion the best parts of the DVD because I attended a few of them and its fun to see them again in a sober state; especially to Dynamo gig, I only have a faint impression in my memory of that occasion due to the booze, so its nice to watch the DVD with some friends and bring back some memories.
Some points of criticism are the Dutch accent of the voice-over and the fact that it’s not divided into chapters so you can’t skip to a favourite part. These are just minor flaws on a very pleasurable DVD.
Please keep in mind that the DVD can only be purchased through Occult themselves or Lowlifemedia so you won’t be able to buy it in stores. “To Be Thrashed By Occult” is limited to 2000 copies and was released in October last year so get it while it`s still available.
