Slachtbeest from Dutch masters of melody Brutus takes us on a journey through atmospherical pop-music. The whole album oozes a feeling of love and happiness and makes me want to sing and dance naked in the forest.

Off course NOT! Slachtbeest (Dutch for slaughterbeast) is the result of four retarded imbeciles locked up in their studio for a certain amount of time, only to be released when they produce a filthy, disgusting piece of brutal death metal. This approach worked perfectly because Ploegbaas, Basteard, Schoft and Ploert have produced a revolting piece of Dutch death metal to be proud of.

The 10 tracks on Slachtbeest have lovely titles like “Vleespomp” (Fleshpump), “Grafzerk” (Tombstone) and the whole idea and image of this band is to be as rude and politically incorrect as possible. The production however is very sophisticated, the drums pound like hell, the guitars sound aggressive and are tuned down to the max, and the grunts vibrate the stomach making sure you puke out your dinner.

Just the way I like it. The tracks are all relentless blastfests and come stampeding over you like a horde of rhino’s, pulverizing all in sight. Best song, in my opinion, is “Grafzerk”. It lasts 5 minutes, has some really cool guitar parts, some slower heavy parts and is the most worked out song of the 10. I hope the next cd will be in this vein

Brutus is actually the first all gay death metal band to come out of the closet, something I find very brave to do. At least I presume they are gay, because, according to the bio: “Woman and relationships are not allowed to disturb the grim ambience of Brutus”. Unfortunately “grim” is a spelling mistake and should be changed to “gay” of course. (Hmmm, the title “Vleespomp” suddenly gets a whole new meaning). I think it’s a brave step for Unique Leader to release this slap of death metal from Holland. Land of tulips, marihuana and brutal death metal.
