Coming from various hard-, thrash- and metalcore bands vocalist Greg Kennedy and guitarist Grant Matot decided they wanted to play some really brutal metal. And so Wasteform was formed in 2001 and the hunt for other members began. Two other members were found in the person of Bill Page on bass and Rocky Morey on drums. After some demo recordings, which ended up as part of a split-cd with Traumaside, and the departure of Rockey Moore, new drummer Kevin Carley was added to the line-up.
Wasteform soon gained a very good live reputation due to their highly energetic live performances and in 2003 the release of their debut Crushing The Reviled was a fact.
A deal with Xtreem Music from Spain was inked and the result is the topic of this review.
The album begins with an instrumental intro appropriately named “Prelude To Apocalypse”. | |
The first thing I notice is the bass guitar, it’s set very upfront in the mix which gives the music a ‘groovy’ feeling. The tone is set for an album with, as you probably expect, a mix of brutal death metal with a hint of ‘insert-style-here’-core.
Fans of both styles of music should check this out as it has some good moments.
I can imagine that fans of Dying Fetus are also going to like this album, although it’s not entirely compatible but it has the same sort of feeling as DF.
The production could be a bit better. As I said the bass is a bit too loud and the guitars are a bit too thin, but the end result is good enough.
Ignorance Through Sovereignty may not be the metal revelation of 2004; it sure is an enjoyable cd and worth checking out.
