After the almighty Nasum and Burst, Gadget is the next grindcore shovel from Sweden to appear on Relapse. 21 blasting tracks, rattling from your speakers with no remorse. Truly no time to breathe on this album. Just the way it should be. Singer William’s various vocals range from screams to grunts (what’s new), and drummer William‘s furious pounding is just what the docter ordered. Riffs go from black metal rants to Carcass type low tuned madness to melodic (!) death metal riffs, all dashed up neatly with an occasional Slayer type squeel. All in all not much new under this shining sun, but hey, who cares right? Well, there are a number of Fear Factory elements that combined with the occasional harmony guitar parts sound quite fresh and compared to the ever ongoing onslaught of the rest of Remote, this works just fine. | |
And with “Failure” and “Inget Val” they take the foot of the pedal without losing the energy of all the grinding, blasting and devouring.
Do what you do right and no one will complain. Gadget do just that. High lights like “Still”, “Wake Up Dead” and “Fuel” will leave you satisfied if pure agression is what you desire. If you are longing for more personality like Labrat or Burnt By The Sun, this album might not be what you want. For everyone else: Let this band grind your teeth out and enjoy the smile that follows.
