Another Messiah is a very experienced innovative metal band from Holland. Expressing more love for doom than thrash the band present us four new tracks. Real die hards out there might know the band’s former name: Nee. A name that doesn’t fit the music on this EP in any way. Another Messiah does.

For a group of musicians who have been playing together for over nine years I expected just a little more than this. There’s quite a lot of fresh ideas here, don’t get me wrong. Check out the first part of “Watch It” or the oboe on “Renaissance” and “When You Feel...”. Singer Rob’s voice tends to travel into the Dickinson corner now and again.

Too bad it also tends to travel into the boring corner every once in a while (the grunt on “One Minute In Between” for instance). The production on Renaissance is mediocre. Where’s the depth, where’s the punch, where are the truly fat distortions?

Another Messiah will suffer under the many bands outthere who have their shit together just a bit better. And if the standard out there is as high as it is, it’s the details that make you stand out.
