After more than three years of silence, here it is: the new Monster Magnet album. Mr. Wyndorf and his companions took their time, but the new album is (again) a real work of art. The album shows the possibility of making progression by on one hand proceeding on the chosen path and on the other hand taking a few steps back to the past. This pretty diverse album sparkles and bursts of (controlled) energy. Besides the influences of Black Sabbath another seventies classic has been discovered. “CCN war Theme” has got more Led Zeppelin background than earlier Monster Magnet work. Psychedelic freakin’ also found his place on this new CD, as well as some almost fragile moments.

Even an MTV compatible melodic chorus (“Unbroken”) is involved. A well balanced mix of compact rock songs, full-grown anthems, and even two covers: Captain Lockheed And The Starfighters’”The Right Stuff”, and David Gilmours “There’s No Way Out Of Here”. Quite a positive remark can be made about the production, which is excellently in addition to the songs: transparent and “light”, or overwhelming massive when necessary. A solid “twentieth century rock ‘n roll psychedelia, larger than live”, rock album. Only minor personal thing: the song that got me most (“The Right Stuff”) at the first listening session was a cover.
