Now here’s a cool album. 14 classic Iron Maiden tracks reworked to straight up elektro. Many die hard Maiden fans will wonder what to think about this one. Well, Paul DiAnno wrote the liner notes and I quote: “This album is fucking mega, and it brought a smile to my face immediately.” And that’s the best way to put it. All 14 tracks are made with the utmost respect for Maiden but the sawing synths and the thumping drum machines make it almost surreal. Most of the songs are done with a vocoder. In itself a pretty cool effect, but after a while I start to long for a normal voice. The problem is all the synth and computer nerds usually aren’t the best of singers. So in the end it’s better this way.

Of course not all tracks are of the same quality. Legowelt. For example, decided to leave out the melody of the chorus on his version of Run To The Hills. Weird. But the stand out tracks are so damn good it’s unbelievable. Ra-X’s Wasted Years has emphasized the melancholy of the song and Rude 66’s remake of Killers is as aggressive and powerful as the original. Even though both of these are done with vocoders it’s the vocals that do the trick. In Rude 66’s case it’s the sound as well. Some other names of the 14 acts featured are Acid Junkies, Luke Eargoggle and Mr. Velcro Fastener. The result of this wonderful initiative is a must have for both elektro and Maiden fans!
