Saturday morning. I find this cd in my mail. Well, I had nothing else to do anyway, cause band rehearsel was cancelled. So I put the cd in my player, got a glass of cola, some chips and laid down on the couch. The first words that storm through my mind are: horrible, aaaargh (almost a word) and why a woman on vocals who’s is not very good at creating cool melodies in key. This sounds like a sort of power metal female vocalist joined a band who’s intention it is to play Bush songs. At least, on “It’s All In Your Head” and “Casualty”. You can hear the band knows how to play, but sometimes it sounds like they don’t know what kind of music they want to play.
After a couple of listenings the album turned out to be more than just a piece of shit. You can consider “Painting You” as their best song, with “Casualty” also a song that deserves the standard ‘good’. | |
You can surely say that this band plays nu metal with a dose of technique (the solo’s and song structures). The songs are constructed good, except for the lack of dynamics. So I am afraid this album kinda gets caught between all sorts of genres.
I read some reviews from other magazines, and they were pretty positive. First I thought why, but after listening to this EP many times, you discover more and more in every song. I advice you not to throw this cd away after the first listening. Instead let it grow on you. I wish them good luck but advice them to choose one style, cause I still think Leonie’s voice does not fit in the nu-metal sound, a more grunge approach should fit nicely.
