A couple of months ago I wrote a review of Mennen’s re-released self titled album. The fact that I can’t remember any of the music I listened to for that review surprised me after hearing the band’s latest release Freakazoid. This album sounds pretty good. Since I’m Dutch, listening to an album released by a Dutch rock band always makes me more critical. Well, I had a hard time finding any points of critisism here. Freakazoid is filled with great rock songs and some delicate ballads. The tracks are structured around catchy and powerful choruses.

This gives the band space to experiment without losing excessibility. One thing that amazes me is the way in which all the different songs are melted into such a tight unity. I have no doubt that producer Erwin Musper (Van Halen, Scorpions and Metallica) had something to do with this. He definitely knows what a great rock album should sound like. Freakazoid is without a doubt one of the best Dutch rock albums of the last couple of years.
