Sahin featuring Ludvik is a cooperation between the German (bass) guitar player Walter Sahin and Rainer Ludwig. Sahin is also responsible for all the programming on the album, a job well done since you can hardly hear that the drums are computer generated. The songs on ‘Sweet Prince’ are a combination of accesible 80`s-rock rhythms, nice vocal melodies and some heavy metal guitar riffs.
The album starts out most promising with a couple of very catchy tracks. It’s a shame that these guys can`t maintain this high level throughout the album. Tracks like ‘One For The Money’ and ‘My Bidden Ones’ sound a bit corny and the lyrics are pretty weak. I know that Ludvik has made his marks in the German prog metal scene -he’s Lunarchy’s lead singer-, and I generaly like his voice, but there are some melodies that don’t do justice to his contribution. | |
Sahin and Ludvik’s attempt to write a balled ‘Sweet Prince’ isn’t very succesfull either; the track sounds nice in a Eurovision Song contest kind of way: you know it’s not a great song, but you find yourself humming along anyway. The track ‘Loosen The Ties’ features the most annoying chorus lyric ever: “all for you, all for you, (I) still haven’t got a clue”. If I hadn’t taken the time to listen to the entire album this review might have been sunnier.
‘Sweet Prince’ contains a couple of nice songs, two or three average ones but too much weak tracks. (Geert) |
